Imperial Navy Sweeps Deep Space

Date: 220307
Planet: Deep Space

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC).

The Imperial Fleet Command announced today that the Imperial Stardestroyer-class ship "Punisher" returned from operations in Deep Space against several suspected bases of pirates and insurgents two days ago. As the information released detailed, the squadrons attached to the "Punisher" for this operation - Omega, Claw and RID - destroyed several groups of enemy ships of unknown origin trying to protect the pirate bases or even trying to attack the bases. Due to the lack of more advanced designs among the ships - mainly old Y-Wings, with a few Z-95s and the odd X-Wing space superiority fighter - they are assumed to have been pirates trying to escape, not insurgents. Some of them chose to launch themselves against the "Punisher" instead of escaping, apparently in a ultimately futile effort to buy the defenders of the bases time to evacuate.

Despite those tenacious attacks the "Punisher" did not take serious damage during the operation while eight bases were destroyed by Claw and Omega's strike groups. The biggest threat appeared towards the end of the operation, when an X-Wing with apparent suicidal intentions attempted to ram the bridge of the "Punisher", but was disabled before it hit the bridge by a TIE Interceptor, then obliterated in full view of the admiral in command of the operation.

While the Imperial Navy announced that this was a big step toward pacifying the sector, other sources suspect that the absence of advanced rebel ships means that they are either used elsewhere, or preparing for a massive counterattack. Time will tell who is correct.
