With most of the Imperial Navy in the sector recovering from the battle in the Karthakk system, last night saw more pirate and smuggling activity as criminal elements tried to exploit the situation for their own goals.
As RSF reported, a patrol of the Imperial Navy consisting of three ships stopped a YT-2400 class freighter to scan the cargo for possible contraband headed towards Rori. The freighter fired upon the lead vessel, and was disabled as a result. At that point, pirates and possibly rebel forces attacked the patrol, suffering heavy losses but managed to capture the freighter, hypering away.
The freighter and ist captors were encountered in Dantooine space later, and all pirate ships were destroyed, the freighter executing an emergency landing south west of the agro outpost on Dantooine. An investigation team was sent to the landing site, and detected several crates of spice hidden inside the cargo compartement, at which point the team was fired upon by the crew of the freighter. Both surviving members are at the Imperial Outpost on Dantooine, in the medical facility, and expected to return to duty in the near future. The freighter lifted off again, and disappeared.
From what was deduced following this incident, pirates tried to raid the freighter for the spice cargo. An investigation is underway.
The Dantooine administration is asking any eye witnesses to contact them since a local farmer's Bol herd was decimated during the landing and fighting, to check possible claims for reimbursement.
