Rebel Base on Yavin IV destroyed

Yavin IV saw extended fighting yesterday when an Imperial fighter group attacked a rebel unit stationed on Yavin IV. From what is known, two patrolling X-Wings were shot down between the Smuggler's Run and Crimson Flare hyperpoint locations, then the orbit around the planet was secured and a suspected rebel base bombed and strafed before ground troops moved in.

The area under attack, about 2 km south of the mining outpost, offered excellent camouflage to the rebels thanks to its jungle nature, but, lacking shield generators, no protection from space-based attacks. Several ships including a YT-2400 freighter were destroyed on the ground.

While no official report has been released yet, unconfirmed rumors state that the base belonged to a rebel unit which had operated as raiders to disrupt Imperial supply routes and bases. So far it is not known if any rebels survived the attack and escaped or where captured, although an imperial transport has been reported taking off before the area was razed by concentrated bombing.
