With the deployment of numerous troops to the new Fort Kane on Talus rumors surfaced that just two weeks after martial law was declared in West Carova the imperial troops stationed there were pulled out, leaving the town in the hands of whatever forces manage to take control of it in the absence of the Empire's finest.
As it turned out this was false, the troopers are still present in town - fortunately, given the location of Tatooine, infamous for its numerous criminal gangs, and the town's long history of attacks by mercenaries and reputation. It is doubtful that the town's residents would know any peace otherwise.
