According to the latest news both the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic have deployed new types of starfighters. Reports of a new TIE-Fighter, named "TIE Defender" have been confirmed, several ships of the type having been observed in various battles accross the sector.
While detailed information is still scarce the TIE Defender is said to have three hard points for blaster cannons and strong shielding and armor as well as a basic misisle rack, and its performance in battle is reported to be very similar to the Advanced X-Wing fighter fielded by the Alliance for years.
The Alliance fleet has been reinforced by the addition of the "T-Wing", continuing their naming tradition. According the what information is available it's an advanced interceptor that has similar capabilities to the latest model of the TIE Interceptor, the so-called "Royal Guard" variant.
It remains to be seen how well both models will be integrated in their respective fleets, and if tactics change as a result.
On the civilian market more and more "Scurrg" Starfighters are appearing, along with advanced versions of the Rjikxyrk and the Ixiyen fighters, both of which have had their profile reduced to increase their survivability in battle, and different versions of the Vaksai Heavy Fighter.
