Pirate "Vigo" attacks convoy

Date: 280611
Planet: Tatooine/Corellia System/Ord Mantell System
Region: Farpoint Valley/Nova Orion Station

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Last night the Intergalactic Mining Company sent a convoy of three freighters with ore from Farpoint Valley, Tatooine, to the Nova Orion Station in the Ord Mantell System. Due to last week's losses among the escorting fighters no escorts were sent in the hope of the freighters' guns being able to protect them against possible pirate attacks. The convoy consisted of Captain Ryian Coron's YT-1300 "Spinning Cloud", Captain Britney's YT-2400 "Sugar Rush" and Captain Auros Drayen's YT-2400 "Midnight Runner".

Departure from Tatooine's orbit was delayed due to technical troubles on board the orbital station, but otherwise went off without trouble. When the convoy reached the Corellia System though it came under attack by a pirate AEG-77 "Vigo" class ship as well as a "Dunelizard" heavy fighter.

In the following fight all three freighters were extensively damaged, some even lost power or thrust temporarily until jury-rigged repairs could be effected. In exchange the dunelizard was destroyed by the rear gunners of the "Spinning Cloud" while chasing the freighter. The Vigo came under withering fire from all three freighters and several torpedoes hit the pirate ship, reducing its front armor to slag but not managing to knock out its systems.

Despite itself suffering from heavy armor and some system damage the "Spinning Cloud" then kept the raider engaged with several attack runs, exchanging fire and slowly drawing it away from the other two freighters in order to allow them to jump out safely. That accomplished the YT-1300 managed to jump to lightspeed right when the "Vigo" was closing the range for another attack, leaving the pirate's guns to hit empty space.

All three freighters underwent repairs at the Nova Orion Shipyards later, but the cargo was delivered safely.

IMC shares rose 0.5 % at the Coronet Stock Exchange following the news, after a temporary loss of 2%.
