Shipwreck found on Dathomir

Date: 290611
Planet: Dathomir
Region: Eastern Dathomir

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Yesterday search parties found a shipwreck on Dathomir. The wreck had been plundered by what appears to be pirates, and native wildlife had already mauled the bodies of the crew left there, so it's not sure if any survivors were shot by the scavengers, or dead on impact. Several scavengers were also found dead, which implies a second group, or internal conflict, or attacks by natives. Since no traces of escape pods were found the search for survivors continues, but people with experience on Dathomir fear the worst, given the natives' infamous hostility towards outsiders.

The authorities did not reveal whether or not the wreck was the freighter that went missing last week.

Aak hunted and rescued by same mercenaries

Date: 280611
Planet: Lok
Region: Southern Lok

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Aak the Toydarian slaver seems to have a knack of making people mad at him - even and especially people with deep pockets and long reach. This is illustrated by the bounty Garubba the Hutt put out on the toydarian recently. Apparently the incentive was so big that two groups of bounty hunters fought each other in Red Sands to capture Aak a day ago, or so the rumor goes, with the winning side then capturing Aak and delivering him to the Hutt's palace.

The wily toydarian also has a knack for getting out of trouble though - which the follow-up illustrates. If rumors are to believed the same mercenaries that captured and delivered him in the first place then went around and let themselves be hired by Aak's friends in Red Sands to spring him from his new cell. According to the latest news they were as successful in this operation as they were in capturing, and the toydarian is now free, if currently in a med center getting treated for his injuries. Whether his injuries were the result of his capture, Garubba's hospitality, or caused during the rescue operation is not known at this point.

Garubba the Hutt though was said to proclaim that Aak will never be safe on Lok again.

Pirate "Vigo" attacks convoy

Date: 280611
Planet: Tatooine/Corellia System/Ord Mantell System
Region: Farpoint Valley/Nova Orion Station

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Last night the Intergalactic Mining Company sent a convoy of three freighters with ore from Farpoint Valley, Tatooine, to the Nova Orion Station in the Ord Mantell System. Due to last week's losses among the escorting fighters no escorts were sent in the hope of the freighters' guns being able to protect them against possible pirate attacks. The convoy consisted of Captain Ryian Coron's YT-1300 "Spinning Cloud", Captain Britney's YT-2400 "Sugar Rush" and Captain Auros Drayen's YT-2400 "Midnight Runner".

Departure from Tatooine's orbit was delayed due to technical troubles on board the orbital station, but otherwise went off without trouble. When the convoy reached the Corellia System though it came under attack by a pirate AEG-77 "Vigo" class ship as well as a "Dunelizard" heavy fighter.

In the following fight all three freighters were extensively damaged, some even lost power or thrust temporarily until jury-rigged repairs could be effected. In exchange the dunelizard was destroyed by the rear gunners of the "Spinning Cloud" while chasing the freighter. The Vigo came under withering fire from all three freighters and several torpedoes hit the pirate ship, reducing its front armor to slag but not managing to knock out its systems.

Despite itself suffering from heavy armor and some system damage the "Spinning Cloud" then kept the raider engaged with several attack runs, exchanging fire and slowly drawing it away from the other two freighters in order to allow them to jump out safely. That accomplished the YT-1300 managed to jump to lightspeed right when the "Vigo" was closing the range for another attack, leaving the pirate's guns to hit empty space.

All three freighters underwent repairs at the Nova Orion Shipyards later, but the cargo was delivered safely.

IMC shares rose 0.5 % at the Coronet Stock Exchange following the news, after a temporary loss of 2%.

Massive Naval Battle in Deep Space

Date: 260611
Planet: Deep Space

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Last night Deep Space was the location of a brutal and extended clash of the naval forces of the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Both task forces were supported by gunboats and sported large numbers of fighters and bombers which struggled for space superiority for hours. While at the start the rebel ships had the upper hand the imperial forces gradually pushed them back over the course of the battle, putting them on the defensive on occasion as atrition among fighters and gunboat crews set in.

The following records were taken during the early part of the battle and released for public distribution by the sector fleet headquarters:

Droid attack near Jawa trade meet

Date: 250611
Planet: Tatooine
Region: Western Tatooine

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Last night merchants dealing with the jawas at their trade meet west of Fort Oasis reported seeing flashes of blaster shots in the distance, in the direction of where Black Sands was located before the city was destroyed. When a curious traveler ventured there he found the remains of half a dozen Droidekas, Clone Wars era battledroids, which judging by the traces had just recently been destroyed.

Since the weapons used looked to be mostly blasters, not slug-throwers, marauding Tusken have been ruled out as being responsible for the attack. The jawas operating nearby claimed to have not seen anyone but customers that wanted to buy droids, and denied selling battle droids when questioned.

Pod Race held on Tatooine?

Date: 240611
Planet: Tatooine
Region: Eastern Tatooine

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Tatooine has a long tradition of pod racing, with the Boonta Eve Classic held outside Mos Espa once being famous all throughout the galaxy. It comes as no surprise given the general attitude towards the law on that desert planet that the outlawing of the sport did not succeed in destroying it, even if it drove the races underground. For some, that just enhanced the appeal.

According to anonymous sources last night one of such illegal underground races was held on Tatooine, pitting pod racers from all over the sector against each other - and against the dangers of the desert and a challenging track. From what is known only one racer escaped the attacks from Tusken Raiders - who have a tradition of their own of shooting at racers - and what appeared to be armed wookiees unscathed, but at least half a dozen daring pod racers survived the gauntlet and reached the finishing line.

Given the clandestine nature of the race no information is available about prize money or betting pools, but one can safely assume both the winning racer and the lucky gamblers earned a lot of money.

Kidnapping in Garubba the Hutt's Palace

Date: 240611
Planet: Lok
Region: Southern Lok

Story: (Written by the Galactic News Agency, Ramona doesn't write IC.)

Last night's reception in the palace of Garubba Desilijic Kiar on Lok took a turn to the violent, or so rumors claim. Apparently one visitor was gunned down right in the middle of his talk with the Hutt and dragged to the cells in the basement by the Hutt's guards. Whether he said something wrong and angered the Hutt or there was another reason for this is not clear.

His fate is unknown at this point, but some screaming was said to be faintly audible in the palace's main hall shortly after his disappearance. A woman was reported to have been poisoned as well, stumbling around until driven to a med center for treatment, but it's not clear if this was related to the earlier incident.
