The local garrison in Bestine has had problems enough to deal with, having come under repeated attacks by rebel forces almost every day this week. Now it seems there's a new trouble ahead - something different than large-scale battles, but disturbing nonetheless.
The garrison recently received, according to the local commander, a capsule containing the mortal remains of Major Jeru Comet. An autopsy revealed that the officer, which had been missing and presumed captured by the Rebel Alliance a few weeks ago, had been beaten to death with blunt instruments. With the body in the capsule was a rebel emblem, the authenticity of which is still being verified.
The Commander of the Bestine Garrison had the following statement being quoted.
"This cowardly murder is another clear proof of what kind of enemies the Empire is facing: Cruel, ruthless criminal filth with a blatant disregard for law, order, and lacking even a shred of honor. If those terrorists believe their heinous acts will make us falter they are wrong though - the more they reveal their true, ignoble nature, the harder each soldier will fight them, the more determineded each member of the New Order will oppose them to defend peace and prosperity of this Galaxy.
The best proof of this is the support by the civilian population of Bestine and beyond we receive daily in the face of repeated attacks by the rebel terrorists. As long as our craftsmen labor under fire, our entertainers brave batlte to support us and every able-bodied man and woman picks up a weapon to help fight the rebels we soldiers of the Empire know we cannot, will not give up until we have won peace for our Galaxy."

Bestine under attack!

Bestine on Tatooine is known for having seen more than its fair share of battles in the Galactic Civil War. For months it was the center for the Imperial troops on the planet, especially when there was a bloody frontline between Anchorhead and Bestine. The city kept suffering from occasional rebel raids for years as well as seeing several major battles, and was never fully pacified.
Last night saw another major battle when rebel troops started to mass in three camps around the town, fending of imperial skirmishers trying to disrupt their preparations for an assault on the city. Imperial troops and civilians alike hastily started to put up barricades and erect turrets while the rebels flew Clone Wars-vintage walkers in.
After a short, tense period the attack then began, and rebel troops and vehicles started to move in on the city. The reinforced imperial troopers however met them in the outskirts of the town and stopped their advance, counter attacking and checking incursions by special force teams, and destroying the few walkers who made it inside the city.
Even when the fighting turned into a chaotic mess, with soldiers not sure anymore where their position was, or what they were shooting at, the city held, with both the Starport and the defense HQ remaining under Imperial Control. When the rebel attack finally stopped the imperial troops, mercenaries and civilian volunteers launched a final counter attack that routed the rebel forces.
No one knows however when the rebels will be back - there have been reports of rebel troops gaining footholds in many locations on Tatooine.

Rebel assault on Dearic beaten back

Last night the town of Dearic on Talus came under attack by ground troops of the Rebel Alliance. Initially the rebels quickly gained a foorhold in the center of the city until arriving imperial troops forced them out of the town. While the rebels regrouped the imperial troopers as well as civilian volunteers began to fortify the city with barricades, expecting a major assault.
The rebel assault that took place exceeded the expectations though, with Clone Wars-era walkers leading the way from the edge of the city, followed by regular and irregular ground troops. At the same time a rebel strike group took control of the city's starport, allowing them to fly in additional troops. The defenders had some trouble dislodging the rebel troopers holed up in the starport, and ferocious, at times chaotic fighting took place all over the city until the last attackers were killed or driven away.
It's clear that the Rebel Alliance had been stockpiling supplies and massing troops and vehicles for this operation. The use of walkers, even if they were older models, came as a surprise to many, and according to some reports there even was a Hailfire tank sighted in the outskirts of the city.
Local experts fear that the fighting will go on in the days to come as both sides struggle for control of the city, which has become a strategic objective in the Galactic Civil War.

RSF prepared evacuation of Keren

Following repeated reports of increasing civil unrest as well as both the Empire and the rebel Alliance massing troops and materials in the area, the RSF has been preparing to evacuate the civilian population of Keren in case an open and large-scale battle breaks out.
RSF officials were quoted that they will do their utmost to avoid another Restuss, but that the safety of the civilian population was their priority. "Buildings can be rebuild, people can't." as one officer put it.
Rumors of a build-up of both armies have been around for weeks now, but so far the fighting in the Naboo system was still centered on the ruins of Restuss on Rori, with other areas and cities just suffering from the occasional skirmish.

Pirates board freighter and rob cargo

Piracy has been on the rise since some time, the attacks of those criminals intensifying. This has been helped along with the Galactic Civil War requiring so many ships and troops which could patrol the spacelanes and defend planets otherwise. Last night's event indicates this perfectly.
The "SS Albatross" captained by Exile had been transporting ore for the Intergalactic Mining Corporation from Farpoint Valley, Tatooine, to the Nova Orion Station in Ord Mantell. Two imperial fighters from the Obsidian Dagger Squadron and a civilian mercenary in a Bellbulab-22 made up the escort for the freighter.
Despite this the convoy came under attack by two starfighters and two modified YT-1300 freighters shortly after leaving Tatooine's orbit, at the Desert Sands hyperpoint. All ships managed to safely hyper out though and reach the Naboo system, despite some damage taken by the "SS Albatross".
Things took a turn for the worse though while the freighter was getting repairs in Naboo's orbit when the pirates were detected again. A chase followed during which the convoy tried to lose the pursuit but without success. Finally forced to engage the pirates the escorts were quickly shot down and the freighter disabled, boarded, and robbed of its cargo.
IMC shares fell 2 % at the Coronet Stock Exchange following the news.

Imperial Forces defend civilian yacht

Last night an Imperial Task force, headed by the 42nd Fighter Wing's Onyx and Obsidian Dagger Squadron as well as the DFA Squadron, escorted a civilian yacht through the Tatooine, Karthakk and Naboo system.
The yacht came under attack quickly in the Tatooine system near Jabba's Star and later Station Star-1. All attackers - flying typical pirate craft - were shot down by the numerically superiour defenders though before the convoy moved to the Karthakk system. There, in a notorious pirate system, the attacks intensified, but the raiders did not manage to stop, much less board the yacht.
A last attack took place in the Naboo system in an asteroid field, after heavy fighting at the Sea of Veruna Hyperspace Point, but once again the defending escorts came out on top, defeating the outnumbered attackers.

Count Lesap attacked in Lord Mierdrym's mansion

Two days ago Lord Corvalis Mierdrym returned to Naboo after a long absence. The noble again took up residency in his ancestral home, Semberholm. The gorgeous mansion is located directly at the coast, south of Moenia.
The noble received a few visitors already, among them Count Simis Lesap, uncle of the late Count Lesap. However the return of Lord Mierdrym did not just attract legitimate visitors - one man broke in and attacked Count Lesap, and had to be stunned by Lord Mierdrym himself.
To make matters worse the attacker escaped afterwards - apparently the wookiee steward of Lord Mierdrym thought it was safe to place him on a couch instead of in a secure cell - and stole a speeder of another visitor. The RSF was notified and started a search for the suspect.
